The Dermalogica Review: The Skin Saver

Disclaimer: These products were gifted to me by Dermalogica. However, I am not being encouraged to say positive things about the products, these are entirely my own opinions.

Yes. The title of this blog post sounds like something The Sun Online would print to trick you into buying something utterly pointless. BUT. This time it’s true. I have been struggling with awful acne recently, and it was really starting to get to me. I took a picture of my face when I had spots erupting left, right, and centre.

I felt absolutely miserable. To many, this may seem like a relatively minor case. The low light doesn’t help that! What this photo doesn’t show are the spots that were very painfully growing under the first few layers of skin on my jawline. They were painful to the touch, and I could contantly feel them throbbing. In the last few months, I must have spent hundreds of pounds on skincare to try and tackle this growing problem. For what? My skin was worse than ever. I didn’t know what to do next. Do I just wait it out?

My skin today

Then Dermalogica came along. They gifted me 5 gorgeous products as a part of their #Skinfluencer campaign that have really improved my skin over the last few days. Granted, it’s not perfect. There are still acne scars and spot marks that are slowly healing over, but it’s such a huge improvement. I even look visibly happier! Now, let me introduce you to the products that have improved my skin in such a short amount of time.

Dermalogica Precleanse: £38.50
 Dermalogica precleanse:

First of all, this stuff smells incredible. If you like the smell of Lush Snow Fairy, you’ll really love this. It melts makeup, excess oil and pollutants from your skin and provides a clean base for your cleanser.

Directions: Dispense into dry hands. Massage over dry face and eyes to dissolve surface oil and dirt. Concentrate on areas of congestion or stubborn debris. Wet hands and continue massaging to create a light, milky emulsion. Rinse with lukewarm water. Follow with prescribed Dermalogica Cleanser for professional cleansing results.

Dermalogica special cleansing gel: £32

Dermalogica special cleansing gel:

This product is really brilliant for skin that feels overheated often like mine. Its gel texture makes it really satisfying to lather on your face. I felt like this product properly cleansed my skin without burning it like some tea tree products would.

Directions: Following the application of PreCleanse, gently lather a small amount of gel in moistened hands and apply to dampened face and throat. Rinse with warm water.

Dermalogica daily microfoliant: £49.50

Dermalogica daily microfoliant:

For some reason, I was really skeptical about this product. I was initially confused to learn that it came in powder form. But, honestly, this stuff is brilliant. The salicylic acid in this product helped eliminate the stubborn acne that was extremely persistent on my chin, and I am so relieved that it did!

Directions: Dispense about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant® into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly.

Dermalogica skin smoothing cream: £54

Dermalogica skin smoothing cream:

If you’re like me and your skin has a tendency to be covered in hundreds of tiny, barely visible pimples, this cream is for you. The trick is to use a small amount, it really does go a long way! After about 5 uses, my skin felt softer and more hydrated.

Directions: Apply over damp face and throat with light, upward strokes.

Dermalogica skinperfect primer: £44.50

Dermalogica skinperfect primer:

Last, but by no means least, is this wonderful little product. I apply this after I have used all the above products, and it seems to help keep acne from popping up throughout the day. For me anyway. It used to be that I’d get a huge new spot every day, but I get the feeling that this product helps to ward them off. It’s a primer, sunscreen, and a skin aging treatment all-in-one! It has a slight skin colour tint to it, so it helped brighten my very pale, dull skin.

Directions: Smooth and blend over entire face and throat. Can be worn alone or underneath make-up to extend wear.

So, there you have it. The dream combination of products that has genuinely helped my skin after months of acne-based emotional turmoil. I’ve only used it for four days, so I’m really excited to see what my skin looks like after a couple of weeks of use! I’ll have to do an update to show you the results. I’d like to thank Dermalogica for letting me be a part of their #Skinfluencer campaign and sending me these delightful products that have helped my skin more than any other product that I have tried in the last few months. You guys are awesome.
